Bangalore University 5 year integrated PG courses

Bangalore University (BU) has invited application from students who have passed PUC or equivalent examinations for the following 5-year integrated courses:

Eligiblity:

For Admission to MBA, MCA for the year 2008, the Karnataka PGCET – 2008 is being conducted under the supervision of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year, First semester of full time (2 years) and part time (3 years) Master of Business Administration (MBA) and full time (3 years) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses, in University Departments and institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Karnataka State Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2008-2009. However, the Non-Karnataka candidates appearing for PGCET - 2008 are eligible for those seats available against the management quota of private professional institutions, in such cases where the institutions have surrendered their quota of seats to CPAC.

Eligibility:
Admission to MBA & MCA courses shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examinations shall not be less than 45%. Provided that for admission to MCA the candidate shall have passed Bachelor degree with not less than 50% of marks with Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Computer Programming / Computer Applications / Business Mathematics / Business Statistics as one of the optional or electives at Degree Level. Provided further that in respect of candidates who have studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50 % of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, 45 % of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission. The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 KMS from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.

Admission procedure:
1) The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and for MCA course between 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on 15-06-2008 (Sunday) at various centers as specified in Brochure supplied with the application.
2) For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.
How to Apply :
The application can be obtained on payment of Rs. 600/- ( Rs 300/- in case of Karnataka SC/ ST and Cat-I, on production of documentary proof) in the form of DD only, drawn in favour of the Member Secretary, CPAC payable at Belgaum.

Admission and Practical Test:
There is no need for CET marks for admission to any degree programme in the University. Merit for admission is based on PCB or PCB marks. Merit for Agriculturists quota is based on 50 per cent marks of PCB / PCM as required and 50 per cent of Practical Test marks. Admission to seats reserved for Agriculturists / Children of Agriculturists, a Practical Test will be conducted by the University.

Reservation of Seats:
Excluding the All India quota under ICAR, New Delhi, reservation of seats for various categories will be made in accordance with the existing reservation policy of Government of Karnataka. Provision is also made for admission to the Kashmiri Migrants. There is also provision to admit Foreign Nationals/NRIs/Children of NRIs on payment of prescribed Institutional Economical Fee.

Admission to MBA, MCA, ME, MTech, MArch Courses in Karnataka

Admission to MBA / MCA / ME / MTech / MArch courses in Karnataka colleges will be done in the following procedure:

Government and Aided Colleges:
1. The State government has entrusted the Central Post Graduate Admission Committee –CPAC in Visvesvaraya Technological University - VTU to conduct the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test PGCET-2008 across the state for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admissions to MBA, MCA and ME/M.Tech/M.Arch courses of government colleges, constituent colleges of universities, university departments, aided courses of affiliated colleges and seats surrendered by private institutions for the academic year 2008-09.
2. The PG entrance test PGCET-2008 for
MBA will be held on June 29, 2008 10.30 am to 12.30 pm
MCA will be held on June 29, 2008 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
ME, MTech / M.Arch on June 22.
3. There will be a centralized seat selection process from July 19, 2008.
4. Courses will commence from August 8, 2008

Private and Unaided Colleges:
Category – A : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled based on merit using the PGCET 2008 through centralized counseling by CPAC in the Vishwesvaraiah Technological University - VTU.

Category – B : 50% of the total intake in MBA and MCA courses in all private unaided institutions shall be filled by the institutions concerned based on merit either in the K-MAT or PGCET examination or in any one National Level Eligibility Test like MAT/ CAT/ JMET and XAT. The institution concerned can admit students who have taken any of these tests. In this category, the institutions concerned will not be obliged to provide for any reservations to SC / ST and OBC candidates in their quota of seats and also in the fee structure.
KMAT-2008 will be held on July 6, 2008
There will not be any centralized counseling process for the private / unaided institutions for the current academic year. Each individual institution will prepare its own merit list based on any of the recognised PG Entrance Tests for transparent admission process.

Category – C: The Private institutions also have a 10% Management / NRI quota which generally does not require any entrance tests for admission.

A Grievance Cell has been set up by the Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association in Bangalore to look into the grievances if any received from any candidate / institution.

CET results put off

The Karnataka Examination Authority's CET 2008 results will be postponed due to the delay in the announcement of CBSE and ICSE results. The CET results were scheduled to be announced on May 14. "The results of ICSE and CBSE have not been announced yet. The KEA will wait until May 25 for these results. If these results are not received even after that, we will announce the CET results," said SG Hegde, Director, KEA.

5% Reservation for ICSE / CBSE Students in 1st year PUC Admissions

A good news for ICSE and CBSE class-X students. Starting from this year, Karnataka PU board has made it a rule for all PU colleges to reserve 5% of the seats to ICSE and CBSE students who would like change their stream of study from ICSE or CBSE to Karnataka PUC. Hence, even if there is a bit of delay in the announcement of class-X ICSE or CBSE results, Karnataka PU colleges will now reserve 5% of the seats to these candidates who seek the admission to 1st year of Karnataka PUC. However, in case these seats are not filled up at the end of 3rd round of seat selection, then the college is at the liberty to transfer the un filled seats to the management quota.
